Self-help projects for war widows
and single mothers
In the villages of northern Uganda, many women today have no provision. They live from hand to mouth. They can not afford school for their children. 20 years of terrible civil war by “Kony’s rebels” has left its mark. They have lost their homes and often also their husbands and sons and are now destitute. Many women are still traumatized by the ill-treatment they received and scenes of horror.
God has done many miracles, though , otherwise they would no longer be alive today. Some have experienced His protection and physical healing. Even food multiplication in the camps was not uncommon. God wanted to show these women that He had not forgotten them.
With the help of seminars, conversation and prayer, they can now work through their traumatic experiences, forgive those who hurt them and become healthy again in spirit, soul and body. More than 100 women have been helped in this way and also been trained to become seamstresses.
Help for the women to become independent!
With this “self-help project” we help women to become capable of making a living for themselves and their children. In 2011 after a women’s conference, we set up a small sewing school as the first project. Those who pass the nine-month training receive a certificate, a Bible, a sewing machine and materials in order to start up their own business. As a result these women can live on their own income, they know Jesus and go to church. Many women also teach their friends to sew too and friendships have emerged. Thanks to our Father in heaven!
Please support this project: You will enable us to buy new sewing machines and material as well as pay the teachers, pastor, cook and night watchmen. We only need 180€ per student per year (monthly: 15€) to buy a sewing machine and materials, as well as to pay the center team including the sewing instructors!
In 2016, we began to build a sewing training center for the village. We are very grateful to the hunger march in Böhl-Iggelheim, Germany, which made all this possible. Here are some impressions of our beautiful new center with its sewing school, community building, dormitory, office, kitchen and night watchmen’s room.
